Bret Sharp made the most of his one season of competition in wrestling at Augsburg, after transferring from Division I Drake University. In the 1991-92 season, Bret went 43-2-1 with 15 pins and 95 takedowns, winning the MIAC championship at heavyweight and finishing third at the NCAA Division III National Championships. He rallied after an overtime loss in the national semifinals to finish third, helping to lead the Auggies to a second-place national team finish. He was part of an Auggie squad that went 18-2 in dual meets that season, with its lone losses coming to Division I schools Ohio State and Nebraska. He won titles at five tournaments that season, and was named the team’s co-Most Valuable Player. Prior to coming to Augsburg, he won 123 matches at Drake, qualifying twice for the NCAA Division I national meet. Bret was an English major at Augsburg, and later earned master’s degrees from Drake and Jones International University Since his college years, he said that he has embraced life as an entrepreneur. He has worked as a general contractor for the past dozen years, building, flipping and renovating hundreds of homes in the Iowa City area. Bret, his wife Katie and their children, Oksana, Aleksandra, Quinlan and Riley, live in North Liberty, Iowa.
