Arvold was a two-time MIAC champion (1983-84) at 177 pounds and earned All-American honors in both NAIA and NCAA Division III national competition, finishing eighth in the NAIA national tournament his sophomore season, second at the NCAA Division III national tournament in 1984 and winning the NAIA national title at 167 pounds in 1983. Arvold finished his career with a 99-11 record. A team co-captain in 1983 and 1984, Arvold earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American honors in 1983 and 1984, and was Augsburg’s Honor Athlete his senior season. He graduated magna cum laude from Augsburg with a chemistry major. Arvold earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1988 and served a family practice residency in Sioux Fall, S.D., from 1988-91. For eight years, he worked as a family practice physician in Dawson, Minnesota, and from 2000-09, he has worked as an emergency room physician at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota. Since April of 2009, he has worked as Director of Emergency Services at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, Minnesota. He has been active in the community as Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, in addition to working with the elementary and high school wrestling programs. Arvold and his wife, Julie, have two children, Matt and Jamie, and live in Dawson, Minnesota.
