Chrissy Baune Bloemendal was one of the top runners for Augsburg’s women’s cross country and track and field teams, earning All-MIAC and all-conference honorable mention honors 16 times in her sterling career. In cross country, Chrissy was the team’s top runner her final three seasons, earning all-conference honors three times and all-region honors twice, including a sixth-place finish at the MIAC Championships in 2001. In track and field, Chrissy earned top-eight finishes 14 times in conference indoor and outdoor championship events. She won the MIAC championship in the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2002, qualifying for the NCAA championships, where she finished ninth, missing All-American honors by just one-hundredth of a second. Chrissy was named Augsburg’s Co-Senior Athlete of the Year in 2002. She graduated from Augsburg with a degree in business administration, and continued her running career, completing eight marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon. Chrissy married Augsburg teammate and Class of 2001 alumnus Eric Bloemendal. She worked in retail management for a dozen years before stepping aside to raise their two highly energetic children, Anneliese and Willem. Additionally, she regularly volunteers for a nonprofits and an elementary school. The family moved to Canada four years ago and now reside in Cambridge, Ontario.
