Schendel earned Augsburg’s Honor Athlete Award in 1976. She was a setter on the 1974 and 1975 volleyball teams that qualified for seven-state regional championships. Schendel has been a member of the U.S. Navy since 1979 and currently a Lieutenant Commander. Since 1993, she has been an assistant professor of Naval Science at the University of Florida. She went on to receive her master’s degree in physical education from Arizona State in 1977, and master’s degree in education and training management from San Diego State in 1989.
