Priesz earned Honor Athlete honors in 1978 as a solid all-around gymnast on Augsburg’s first team in the sport in the mid-70s. She was also a member of the cross country team and track and field team as a middle-distance runner, hurdler and long jumper, and was a participant in state championship meets in all three sports. She was also active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Augsburg Chorale, and intramural sports. She earned degrees in physical education and elementary education at Augsburg, and earned her master’s degree from Minnesota State-Mankato in 1988 and was certified in Adapted Physical Education. In 2008, she earned her Education Specialist degree and has a K -12 Principal license from St. Thomas University. Since 1978, she was worked in the Orono Minnesota School District, as a physical education and health teacher at Orono Middle School, and as a coach at both the middle and high school levels. She coached varsity gymnastic for 25 years. In addition, she coached track and field, cross country, volleyball, intramurals, badminton, and table tennis. She has served the school district on several committees and since 1995, has been the district’s physical education and health curriculum coordinator. Currently she works half days as the districts peer evaluator evaluating and discussing good teaching practices using the Charlotte Danielson rubric. The rest of the day she teaches physical education to 6th and 8th graders. In 2009, she was awarded the Minnesota Girls and Women in Sports Day “Breaking Barriers” Award. She was inducted into the Minnesota Gymnastics Association Hall of Fame in the 90’s. She and her husband Douglas Tietz live in Shakopee, Minnesota. She has three stepdaughters, Adrienee, Laura, and Kari and one grandson Brock.
