As a football running back, Roff earned All-MIAC honors and Academic All-NAIA District 13 honors in 1981. His 2,042 career rushing yards are third-most in school history, and he holds the school record for career rushing touchdowns with 18. Since graduating from Augsburg in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in English education and his master’s degree from St. Thomas in 1993, Roff has been a successful teacher, administrator and coach at the high school level. From 1983-99, he was an English and physical education teacher at Minneapolis Edison High School, also serving as a coach in football, wrestling and track. In eight years as wrestling head coach, he guided 27 state tournament entrants and earned two Minneapolis Conference wrestling and four conference Staff of the Year awards. He also was part of football staffs that won section titles five times. In 1999, he was named athletic director at Edison, and served in that role until 2007, when he moved to the Fridley Public Schools, where he currently serves as activities administrator. He was named Region 5AA Activities Administrator of the Year in 2007, and was inducted into the Edison Athletic Hall of Fame. He has also served as a wrestling official at both the state and collegiate level, has been on several Minnesota State High School League committees and has served as a youth education teacher at his church. Roff and his wife Julie have three children, Ben, Andy (a senior at Augsburg) and Abby, and live in Plymouth, Minn.
