Darrell Wiese served the Augsburg athletics department for several decades as an assistant coach and recruiter, sending literally hundreds of student-athletes to play for the Auggies. As a student at Augsburg, Wiese was a three-year starter and letterwinner on the baseball team, as a member of the 1959 MIAC championship team.
While also working on his family farm in rural Northfield, Minn., he was a volunteer coach and recruiter for Augsburg in southern Minnesota. In 1994, he became a member of the Augsburg football and baseball coaching staffs and also served as the men’s athletic department’s assistant recruiting coordinator. Wiese retired after the 2008 baseball season. In 2004, baseball head coach Keith Bateman recognized Wiese's lifelong contribution to Augsburg athletics by naming a trophy in Wiese's honor -- the Darrell Wiese Most Respected Player Award.
Wiese and his wife Arlys live in Northfield. They had two children – Karla Miller (Augsburg ’79) and son Jim – and five grandchildren.
