Kennedy was the first four-time winner of prestigious All-Lutheran Wrestling Tournament and was also a two-time MIAC Champion as well as an All-American wrestler in 1975. He was co-captain his senior season for a team that finished 2^nd in the NAIA National Tournament. He has ran in the New York and Boston marathons.
