A 1979 NAIA men’s hockey All-American, Bain was a key goalie for Augsburg teams that won the national title in 1978, earned NAIA national tournament appearances three times in his career and earned MIAC championships all four seasons. He earned All-MIAC and NAIA All-Tournament Team honors, finishing his career with a goals-against-average of 3.47. He was team co-captain his senior year. After graduating with a degree in social work from Augsburg, he began working for the St. Joseph’s Home for children as an adolescent youth counselor. Eventually, he supervised a youth shelter program. He has developed and runs three community-based homes working with children in need of safe and nurturing place to stay. He and his wife, Dawn Schletty, have two children – Matthew, Shannon, one grandson Alex, and live in West St. Paul, Minnesota.
