One of only three two-time All-Americans in the history of Auggie men’s hockey, Hughes was a two-year captain (1976-77, 1997-78) and a defenseman on Augsburg’s first national championship team, winning the NAIA national hockey title in 1978. Hughes, Most Valuable Player in the MIAC in 1978, is fourth on the school’s all-time list in assists (92). Hughes’s teams won MIAC titles twice (1976-77, 1977-78) and had a 71-34-1 record during his tenure. He also participated on Augsburg’s men’s golf team. Hughes has been a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines for the past 17 years, along with serving as a reserve teacher in the Minneapolis schools. He is also an assistant boys’ hockey coach at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Hughes lives in Burnsville, Minnesota.
