Gary Thompson was a tremendous competitor in the upper weights during his Augsburg days, as a member of teams that won a Division III national title his senior season, while finishing second twice and third once. In the 1992-93 season, Gary went 27-8 en route to winning the MIAC championship at 177 pounds and qualifying for the NCAA Division III national championships, where he finished fourth to earn All-American honors. He finished his career with a 91-40-1 record, earning the team’s Co-Most Improved Wrestler honor in his senior year. He earned Academic All-MIAC honors twice and was named a NWCA Scholar All-American in 1993. Gary majored in business administration at Augsburg, and since his college days, he has worked in the business world in sales positions. For the past 16 years, he has worked as a senior sales executive for the RDM Corporation, selling banking software. He is a volunteer Sunday School teacher at his church and also serves as a Vantage Business Program mentor in the Minnetonka schools. Gary has three daughters, Callie, Camryn and Lily, and lives in Hopkins, Minnesota.
