Peterson was All-MIAC hockey all four years, three-time leading scorer and three-time Most Valuable Player, co-captain. Also played tennis, and was a three-time MIAC extramural badminton champion. Named 1967 Honor Athlete, senior class president. Graduated with a double major in biology and physical education, and began teaching and coaching both hockey and soccer at Bloomington Kennedy High School. Teams there were state champions (soccer 1981, hockey 1987), state runners-up (hockey 1984, soccer 1985) and state consolation champion (hockey 1976). Was selected Minnesota State Coach of the Year in both hockey (1984) and soccer (1985). Coached more than 20 players who became Auggies, including All-American hockey players Jon Bergherr, Scott Smith and Dallas Miller. His wife Linda is a 1968 Augsburg graduate, and Jerry says his greatest accomplishment at Augsburg was getting her to marry him in 1968.
