An NAIA men’s basketball All-American in 1981, Boone was a member of Auggie teams that won MIAC championships in 1980 and 1981, earning All-MIAC and conference Most Valuable Player honors both years. He was an NAIA All-Tournament team member on Augsburg’s NAIA district championship and Final Eight team in 1981, and was a team co-captain. The leading scorer and rebounder of Auggie teams his two seasons here, he ended his Auggie career with 1,258 points, good for ninth in school history. He became one of only three Auggies ever drafted by an NBA team, when the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him in the 1981 draft. He eventually played professionally in Taiwan, in the Jones Cup Tournament in the summer of 1981. After graduating from Augsburg, he spent nine years working and living in the Los Angeles area as a financial analyst. He returned to the Twin Cities in 1992, where he has spent the last decade working at Northwest Airlines as a business and finance manager. He also has spent the last five years as a volunteer youth basketball coach in south Minneapolis. He and his wife, Sherri, have two sons – Derrick and Andre –and live in Minneapolis.
