Schmidt Wahlin showed her versatility in two sports, softball and volleyball, during her Auggie years. In softball, the third baseman/pitcher earned All-MIAC honors in both her junior and senior seasons, and was named both All-Region and a second-team All-American in her season of 1992, one of six softball All-Americans in Augsburg history. Schmidt Wahlin finished her career with a .299 batting average, and still stands in the top 10 in the Augsburg record book in several categories – at-bats (seventh, 118), runs scored (seventh, 88), hits (eighth, 132) total bases (10th, 150), and pitching win-loss percentage (second, .770). She was also a three-year started as an outside hitter in volleyball, and served as a team co-captain in both sports. After earning her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and physical education in 1992, she moved into education in the Anoka-Hennepin School District. She has served as a fifth and sixth grade teacher, and currently serves as assistance principal at Andover Elementary School. She has also coached softball, volleyball and gymnastics at Anoka and Champlin Park High Schools, and was name Northwest Suburban Conference Softball Coach of the Year in 1999, after her squad won the conference title. She has also coached volleyball and softball on the youth and Junior Olympic level, and has participated twice in the Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer Three-Day Walk. Schmidt Wahlin and her husband, Augsburg alum Dean Wahlin ’91, live in Blaine, Minnesota, and have two daughters, Kasey and Kiley.
