Dainty was one of the dominant pitchers in the MIAC during his two seasons at Augsburg, earning All-MIAC baseball honors in both 1987 and 1988. The 1987 squad won the MIAC title and advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament. Dainty was 20-6 in his two Auggie seasons, with 24 complete games and four shutouts in his Auggie record. He struck out 139 batters in his two seasons against just 84 walks, with a 3.36 career earned-run average. He went 12-3 with a 3.35 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 1987, and went 8-3 with a 3.37 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 1988. Dainty graduated from Augsburg in 1990 with a degree in health and physical education, and his master’s degree in 1999. Since 1993, he has worked as a teacher at Northdale Middle School in Blaine, Minn., and has served as a baseball, football, basketball and volleyball coach during his career. He served four seasons as head coach for the Blaine High School baseball team. Dainty also played amateur baseball until 2006, on teams that won several amateur state titles. Jeff and his wife, Deanna, have a son, Ryan, and live in Blaine.
