As a middleweight wrestler, Stoks earned MIAC titles in 1980 and 1981 at 158 pounds and earned All-American honors with a second-place finish at the NAIA national tournament in 1981. As a senior, Stoks served as team co-captain and was unbeaten during the regular season, but an injury kept him from tournament competition. He was a member of teams that won MIAC championships three times and finished in the top 10 nationally three times in his career, including a third-place national finish in 1979. He also earned a varsity letter in football his sophomore season.
Stoks graduated cum laude from Augsburg in art and design. For the past 25 years, he has worked in the graphic arts industry, and is currently the vice president of Sexton Printing in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has been active in his church as a faith formation teacher for the past 13 years, and is active in triathlons in the summer. Stoks and his wife, Peggy, live in Lino Lakes, Minnesota, and have three daughters – Jenna, Allison, and Rachel.
