Jim South, Class of 1996 … Jim South was one of the most dominant big men in the long and storied history of Augsburg men’s basketball. He was a four-year starter for the Auggies, and in 95 career games, he averaged 13.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per-game, while contributing 103 blocks, 95 steals and 43 assists. He holds Augsburg’s career record for field-goal percentage, connecting on nearly 63 percent of his shots. His 1,320 points are eighth-most in school history, while his 538 field goals are seventh-best, his 589 rebounds are ninth best and his 103 blocks are third-best. He connected on 18 field goals in a 1995 game, tying a single-game school record. After being named to the MIAC’s All-Rookie Team in his first year, he earned All-MIAC honors each of his next three seasons. He was also an all-region honorable mention selection in his junior year, in which he also earned team MVP honors. Jim also played on the Augsburg baseball team for three seasons. He earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations from Augsburg in 1996 and worked for Coca Cola in its special events department for nine years. He is an active volunteer in his church and his children’s youth sports teams, while also working as an assistant coach for the Park High School varsity girls’ basketball team. Jim and his wife Robin have three teenage children -- Holly, Lauren and James -- and live in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
