Engel was a starting guard for the Augsburg men’s basketball team for each of his three seasons, earning All-MIAC first-team honors in both 1985-86 and 1986-87. He was a member of the 1984-85 Auggie squad that won the MIAC title and qualified for the first time in school history for the NCAA Division III national playoffs. Engel finished his 1,040 career points (13.1 points-per-game), one of 16 players to reach the 1,000-point milestone in school history. A team MVP and team captain, Engel earned the team’s Auggie Award in 1986. Engel earned his degree in business marketing from Augsburg in 1987, and worked for General Mills from 1987 to 2004, earning several national sales awards. After a short stint working for the Minnesota Timberwolves, he returned to the consumer foods/products industry, with Advantage Sales/Marketing from 2005-07, and in his current position with Pepsico since 2007, as a senior account manager for the Quaker-Tropicana-Gatorade Division/SV Team. He has remained active in athletics, both playing and coaching, including playing on three state championship men’s basketball teams. Engel and his wife, Karen, have three children -- Derrick, Kaylee and Sean -- and live in Chaska, Minn.
