One of the top middleweight wrestlers in Augsburg history, Habeck earned All-American honors and was a member of Augsburg’s first NCAA Division III wrestling national championship team in 1991. In national competition, he finished seventh at 167 pounds in 1991, while posting a 40-8-1 season record en route to the Auggies' first national team title. He also won MIAC individual titles in 1990 and 1991, and earned National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-America honors in 1991. His Auggie squads finished in the top 10 each of his four years – eighth in 1988, third in 1989, second in 1990 and as national champions in 1991 – while winning the MIAC title each of those years and producing a dual-meet record of 51-4, including a perfect 40-0 record his final three seasons. A captain during his final year in an Augsburg singlet, Habeck’s leadership and team-first mentality were instrumental in leading the Auggies to their first team national championship trophy. Following his graduation from Augsburg in 1991 with dual degrees in economics and education, he later earned his master’s degree in sports administration. Habeck has spent 21 years teaching social studies in School District 196, most of it spent at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, Minn. In addition to his teaching duties, Habeck has served as the wrestling head coach at Eastview for the past 15 years, and is also an assistant football and strength and conditioning coach. He served as the president of the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association in 2009-10, and currently serves on the Minnesota State High School League Wrestling Advisory Council. Habeck has also been an active participant in the Eastview Athletic Association, where he has served as a youth sports coach for the past 13 years. Habeck and his wife, Shelly, have four children -- Hannah, Zachary, Erinn, and Luke -- and live in Apple Valley, Minn.
