Augsburg Coach, Distinguished Athletic Service Award, Augsburg Professor
Part of the first group of women inducted into Augsburg’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Peterson was a Professor Emeritus at Augsburg. She also coached women’s basketball and taught at the college from 1950-80. She was the woman known as “Mrs. Pete” and was one of the single most influential people in the development of women’s athletics at Augsburg.  As a coach ,teacher, mentor, and advocate, Peterson created numerous opportunities in athletics and physical education for women. In the 1950’s, Peterson launched the Auggiettes women’s basketball team and started an 18-year coaching career. Peterson's teams won 154 of 160 games with thirteen unbeaten seasons. The Auggies played park board-league teams and later other college club teams. The Auggies started playing a varsity schedule in the mid-1970's. In 1979, Peterson received the college’s first Distinguished Athletic Service Award and a year later, the Distinguished Faculty Award.
