One of the top track and field athletes in school history, Herrera earned All-American honors seven times in track and field, dominating the throwing events during her career. She qualified for NCAA Division III national meets in the shot put all four season of outdoor competition and her final three seasons of indoor competition. She won NCAA Division III national championships in the outdoor shot put in 1987 and in 1988 in both indoor and outdoor competition. Her 15.25-meter (50-feet, 0.5 inches) effort to win the 1988 outdoor title remains an NCAA Division III championship record. Her efforts helped Augsburg’s squad to a fourth-place team finish in 1988 and a fifth-place team finish in 1987 – the best team finishes ever for any Augsburg women’s team sport in NCAA Division III national competition. She was also a member of Augsburg’s volleyball team for three seasons. A communications major, Herrera was Augsburg’s Senior Honor Athlete in 1988. She currently lives in Rosemount, Minnesota.
