Nick Fornicoia was a two-time MIAC champion wrestler, while earning All-America honors three times and winning the 118-pound national title in 1993. He finished with a career record of 136-25-2. Fornicoia was a part of Augsburg squads that won national titles in both 1991 and 1993 and had national runner-up finishes 1990 and 1992. Nick's national championship victory over his Wartburg opponent in 1993, avenged a loss from earlier in the season was instrumental in beginning one of the most dramatic come-from-behind team victories in school history. In 2011, Nick was named to the NWCA Division III Hall of Fame. His greatest athletic highlight at Augsburg was being a part of the first ever NCAA Division III wrestling national championship. He also competed for the Auggie cross country team in the restarted team's first two seasons, with a career-best time of 31:52 at the eight-kilometer distance. Nick graduated from Augsburg with a degree in English Education and went on to earn his master's degree in education from the College of St. Scholastica. Nick currently serves as an English/Journalism teacher and wrestling coach at Eastview High School. He was selected as the Minnesota Journalism Educator of the Year in 2009, coached his teams to four Academic State Championships and was selected at the Minnesota assistant coach of the year in 2009. Nick has also run eight marathons. He and his wife Mara, and daughters, Sofia and Amelia reside in Eagan, Minnesota.
