Christensen played on city VFW basketball team that advanced to AAU national tournament in Wichita, Kansas during her freshman season. She served as co-captain on an undefeated team her senior year and was chosen as W.A.A. Honor Athlete that year. Currently she serves as a professor and coordinator of the internship program in the Division of Educational Psychology and Counseling at the University of South Dakota. She received her master’s degree in Counseling from Purdue University in 1996, and her PhD from Michigan State University in 1973. Christensen did post doctoral work at Vermont University in Adlerian Psychology and additional post doctoral work at the Ackerman Family Therapy Center in New York City. She also served as professor and director of the internship program in the Division of Counseling and Psychology at the University of South Dakota (USD) from 1973-2000. After she retired in 2000, she was granted Professor-Emerita status from USD. Christensen currently resides in Vermillion, South Dakota but spends part of the winter in Green Valley, Arizona.
