Ron Petrich was one of the finest baseball coaches in Augsburg history, coaching the Auggies from 1980-1992. He is the winningest baseball coach in Augsburg history, posting a career record of 236-191-3, and an MIAC record of 136-107-1. Under Petrich's direction, the Auggies won the MIAC baseball title in 1987 and earned NCAA Division III national playoff berths twice. Ron and earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors in 1982 and 1997 and coached 25 All-MIAC players. Prior to coaching at Augsburg, he coached baseball at Minneapolis South High School, compiling a 111-52 record in 9 years, winning 2 district crowns and earning conference Coach of the Year honors twice. He also coached basketball, football, and girls' tennis at South and was inducted into Minneapolis South Wall of Honor in 2009. Ron was a driving force behind use of the Metrodome for amateur baseball from 1984 to 2014, scheduling games for teams throughout the Midwest. Ron graduated from Augsburg with a double major in Social Science and Physical Education and went on to earn his masters degree from the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. He currently serves as an Assistant professor in Augsburg's education department. Ron and his wife Jane reside in Minneapolis and have two grown children -- Jay and Jodi.
