Blom played just one season of hockey at Augsburg, but made the most of that season, being named the Most Valuable Player of the 1978 NAIA national tournament, leading the Auggies to the school’s first national championship in any team sport. In 1977-78, Blom recorded 14 goals and 28 assist s for 42 points, as Augsburg went 22-6-0 overall (13-1-0 MIAC), including a stretch of 10 victories in a row to end the season with a national title. After graduating from Augsburg with a degree in physical education, Blom played for five seasons in the semipro ranks, with the United States Hockey League’s Madison Blues and Waterloo Blackhawks. He later served the Blackhawks as a coach, and later served as an assistant coach at St. Paul Johnson High School and White Bear Lake High School. For the last six seasons, Blom has been a member of Mike Schwartz’s men’s hockey staff at Augsburg as an assistant coach. For the past 24 years, Blom has worked as a firefighter for the St. Paul Fire Department. Blom and his wife, Karen, have two adult children, Stan Jr. and Nicole, and live in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota.
