Simones was a four-year veteran in both cross country and track and field. In cross country, Simones was an All-MIAC honoree in 1996 with a sixth-place finish in conference meet while also qualifying for the NCAA Division III national championships. In her senior year, she placed in the top 10 three times, including a win at the Martin Luther Invitational, before placing 20th at the MIAC championships. In track and field, Simones was a multiple All-MIAC honoree, winning the outdoor 5,000-meter run in her junior season while qualifying for the NCAA championships in the 10,000-meter run the same year. Her career-best of 37:45.01 in the outdoor 10,000 meters remains the school record. She was a three-year captain and earned Scholar All-American honors twice in cross country. She was also named to the Academic All-MIAC squad and earned Joyce Pfaff Academic Award honors three times in her career. She was an elementary education major and special education minor at Augsburg. After graduating, she coached at the Blake School in cross country skiing, cross country running, and track and field before moving to the Milwaukee area, where she taught elementary school. She has worked as a YMCA instructor and has continued to be active in both running and triathlons. She and her husband Jeff have two children, Faith and Jadelyn, and live in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
