Grinde was four-year letterwinner and linebacker for an Auggie football squad that showed strong improvement throughout his tenure. In his senior season of 1980, the Auggies finished 5-5, including a dramatic 21-10 win at St. John’s. He served as a team co-captain in 1980. In his freshman season, he earned MIAC Player of the Week honors. He was named Augsburg’s Honor Athlete in 1981, and earned Academic All-NAIA District 13 honors in 1980. A Dean’s List student, he graduated with a major in chemistry and minors in biology and business. Grinde attended the University of Minnesota Dental School, from which he graduated in 1985. That year, he established his dental practice in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Grinde and his wife, Kathy, have three children, Anders, Kjersten and Eric. He has coached youth football, basketball, and baseball in Maple Grove, and helped to establish the Maple Grove – Osseo Youth Football Association. He served as president of the association for two years. He has served as congregational president of his church, Maple Grove Lutheran, and has sponsored and supported numerous youth activities in the Maple Grove-Osseo area.
