LAKE FOREST, Ill. (11/14/03) --
Katie Fedoryk (Sr., Austin, Minn.) made 20 saves to record her fifth career shutout in goal, as Augsburg College scored its first women's hockey win of the season with a 3-0 nonconference triumph over Lake Forest College at LFC's Alumni Memorial Rink on Friday night.
Augsburg outshot Lake Forest by a 43-20 margin, including a 19-1 edge in the third period, to improve to 1-1 on the season. Lake Forest drops to 1-3-1 overall.
Three Auggies notched their first goals of the season in the victory.
Jana Ford (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) scored on an assist from
Dottie Gilkerson (Sr., Somerset, Wis.) at the 5:18 mark of the first period.
Laura Prasek (Jr., Fridley, Minn.) scored an unassisted goal at the 4:01 mark of the second period, and
Stacy Anderson (Fr., Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina HS) collected her first collegiate goal, on a feed from
Kristin Murr (Fr., Thornton, Colo./Quest Academy HS) at the 15:17 mark of the third period.
While Augsburg went 0-for-7 on the power play, the Auggie defense stopped all four Lake Forest power-play opportunities. In her first start of the year, Fedoryk stopped all 20 shots she faced to pick up the shutout. Sally Bevis made 40 saves in a losing effort for Lake Forest.
The teams finish their nonconference series on Saturday (11/15) at 2:30 p.m. at Lake Forest.
