Bockmann makes 31 saves in college debut in goal, Augsburg ties Lake Forest (Ill.) again

MINNEAPOLIS (11/6/04) -- Making her first collegiate start in goal, Augsburg College's Amanda Bockmann (Fr., Wind Lake, Wis./Muskego HS) made 31 saves, including four in overtime, as the Auggies tied Lake Forest College (Ill.) for the second game in a row, a 3-3 overtime draw in a nonconference women's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Andrea Richmond (Jr., Enfield, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon School) had a goal and an assist for the Foresters, while Stacy Anderson (So., Lafayette, Calif./Marina HS) and Jocelyn Cookson (Jr., Edina, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson HS) had two assists each for the Auggies.

Both teams are 0-0-2 on the season. The teams tied 4-4 in overtime on Friday night.

Lake Forest took a 2-1 lead into the locker room after the first period, on an unassisted goal by Richmond at the 12:58 mark and Darby McGrath's (So., Chippawa, Ontario) third goal of the weekend, on assists from Ali Neal (Fr., Wolfboro Falls, N.H./Holderness School) and Richmond, at the 18:35 mark.

But Augsburg tied the game in quick fashion, as Lauren Chezick (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season on a 4-on-4 opportunity just 53 seconds into the second period, with linemates Anderson and Cookson assisting.

Chezick now has two points on the season, edging closer to Augsburg's career scoring record. She now has 115 career points (48 goals, 67 assists), just five points behind the all-time scoring record of 120, set by Angie Rieger from 1997-2001 (68 goals, 52 assists).

Augsburg took the lead at the 7:15 mark of the second period, as Jenny Schmidt (Fr., North St. Paul, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal, on feeds from Anderson and Cookson.

But Lake Forest tied the game in the closing minute of the frame, with Laura Wilson (Fr., Coronna, Ontario) notching her first collegiate goal on feeds from Erin McGrath (Jr., Chippawa, Ontario) and Liz Mabs (So., Crete, Ill.).

Bockmann, making her collegiate debut in goal, made 31 saves for the Auggies, as Lake Forest outshot Augsburg 34-26 in the contest. Sally Bevis (So., Huntington, N.Y.) made 23 saves for Lake Forest.

Augsburg continues its eight-game homestand to open the 2004-05 season next weekend with a two-game series against Finlandia (Mich.) at the Augsburg Ice Arena. Friday's (11/12) game is at 5:05 p.m., with Saturday's (11/13) game set for 2:05 p.m. A celebration for Augsburg's 10th anniversary season of women's hockey will follow Saturday's game at the college's Christensen Center.
