Track and Field 4/5/08 -- Augsburg at Hamline Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/5/08) -- Nick Ward (FY, Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Megan Krumrie (JR, Elk Mound, Wis.) each recorded three top-10 finishes, leading the Augsburg College track and field teams in competition on Saturday at the Hamline University Invitational at the Klas Center.
Ward finished second in the men's 100-meter dash in 11.45 seconds, while placing third in the 200-meter dash in 22.94 seconds and sixth in the long jump with a 6.20-meter (20-feet, 4.25-inches) effort. Krumrie finished fourth in the women's long jump with a 4.88-meter (16-feet, 0.25-inches) effort, while placing seventh in the 400-meter dash (1:01.96) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.26 seconds).
Kevin Haglund (SR, Fridley, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) finished second for the Auggies in the men's triple jump, with a 13.72-meter (45-feet, 0.25-inches) effort that is currently tops among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men in outdoor competition, and just 11 inches shy of the NCAA Division III national championships provisional qualifying distance of 14.00 meters (45-feet, 11.25-inches). Also for the Auggie men, James Strand (SO, Brainerd, Minn.) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles (56.28 seconds), a time now second-fastest among MIAC men.
Whitney Holman (SO, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) claimed a third-place finish for the Auggies in the women's 100-meter dash (13.05 seconds). Erin Leyden collected two top-10 finishes in women's weight events, placing seventh in the shot put (9.80 meters/32-feet, 2.0-inches) and ninth in the discus (29.80 meters/97-feet, 9.0-inches).
D.J. Wendell (JR, Princeton, Minn./Charles M. Russell (Mont.) HS) placed fifth for the Auggie men in the 100-meter dash (11.62 seconds), while Shane Pantila (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) placed sixth in the triple jump (12.31 meters/40-feet, 4.75 inches), and Brent Haglund (SO, Fridley, Minn.) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run (15:26.13). Adam Horkey (SO, Windom, Minn.) placed seventh for the Auggies in the long jump (6.08 meters/19-feet, 11.50-inches).
Augsburg returns to action next Saturday (4/12) at the Gustavus Adolphus College Lee Krough Invitational.
