Women's Hockey 1/10/09 -- Augsburg 5, Plymouth State (N.H.) 3
MINNEAPOLIS (1/10/09) -- Alison Ulseth (FY, Orono, Minn.) scored a goal and added an assist, leading Augsburg College in its third straight women's hockey victory, a 5-3 nonconference decision over visiting Plymouth State University (N.H.) on Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Eight different Augsburg (3-10-0 overall) players figured in the scoring, and the Auggies outshot Plymouth State (0-9-0) by a 60-19 margin.
Three of Augsburg's goals came on special teams -- a power-play goal by Ulseth in the first period and shorthanded goals by Kali Holst (FY, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) and Tiffany Magnuson (SR, Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy HS). Holst scored her fifth goal in the last three games, and team-high ninth of the season, while Magnuson claimed her first goal of the year and the 57th of her Auggie career.
Jenna Knudtson (SO, Austin, Minn.) and Brya Erickson (SO, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) also scored goals for the Auggies, and Sara Toft (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had two assists. Elise Hedlund (SO, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) and Erin Leyden (SO, Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South HS) also had assists for Augsburg.
Elizabeth Murray (SO, Woburn, Mass.), Amanda Arponen (JR, Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth South HS) and Jaimie Camara (FY, Portsmouth, R.I.) had a goal and assist apiece for Plymouth State, with Tina Worley (FY, Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond HS) and Amanda Kreamer (SR, Lynn, Mass./Lynn English HS) adding assists.
Augsburg goalie Grace Edgar (SO, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS) stopped 16 shots to claim her first collegiate victory. Lindsay DeLorie (SR, Holliston, Mass./Newton Country Day HS) made 55 saves for the Panthers in a losing effort.
Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play next Friday and Saturday (1/16-17) with a series against St. Benedict. Plymouth State finishes its three-game trip to Minnesota on Monday (1/12) at 3 p.m., with a game at Bethel.
