Johnson leads Auggies at invite

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

HAM LAKE, Minn. -- Zach Johnson (JR, Sartell, Minn.) finished in 26th place with a career-best 152 total, leading the Augsburg College men's golf team at the Augsburg Fall Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Majestic Oaks Golf Course.

Johnson set a career-best with a first-round 74 in Saturday's first round, then shot a 78 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 26th in the 123-golfer event. His 152 total also was his career-best for a 36-hole event.

As a team, Augsburg tied for 12th in the 17-school, 22-team event with a 623 (309-314) total. Augsburg's junior varsity squad finished in 19th place with a 658 (332-326) total.

Johnson was one of three Auggies to shoot both rounds in the 70s in the event. Brian Deuel (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) shot 154 (75-79) to tie for 38th, and Justin Popp (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) shot 157 (79-78) to tie for 51st.

Tim Herrmann (JR, Belle Plaine, Minn.) shot 161 (82-79) and Drew Bahl (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) shot 164 (81-83) to round out the Auggie varsity lineup.

Terry Gibbons (SR, Westlake, Ohio) led the Auggie JV with a 161 total. Matt Bendzick (SR, Chaska, Minn.) shot 165, Ryan Lundeen (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) shot 166, Silas Alberty (FY, Eagan, Minn.) shot 169 and Tucker Williams (SR, Roseville, Minn.) shot 173.

Augsburg returns to action next Saturday and Sunday (9/17-18) at the St. John's Fall Invitational at the GreyStone Golf Club in Sauk Centre, Minn., and the Blackberry Ridge Golf Club in Sartell, Minn.
