BECKER, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's golf team opened the spring half of the 2011-12 season competing at the University of St. Thomas Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Pebble Creek Golf Club.

In her first Augsburg meet, Augsburg's Hannah Shafer (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) shot a two-day total of 184 (89-95) to lead the Auggies, placing 33rd in the 60-golfer field. Courtney Barthel (FY, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) shot a career-best 36-hole total of 192 (90-102), including a 18-hole career-best 90, to tie for 41st overall.

As a team, Augsburg placed ninth with a 775 (384-391) total.

Jill Ferguson (JR, Batavia, Ill.) shot 196 (102-94) to place 49th. Ashley Lindemann (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) shot 203 (103-100) and Emilee Howe (JR, Eden Prairie, Minn.) shot 226 (119-107).

Competing as individuals, McKay Karl (SO, Belle Plaine, Minn.) shot 213 (105-108) and Margaret Hughes (SO, Mendota Heights, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) shot 240 (115-125).

Augsburg returns to action next Saturday and Sunday (4/21-22) against Bethel at the Oak Glen Golf Course in Stillwater, Minn.
