FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Augsburg College wrestler Niko Bogojevic (FY, Superior, Wis.) claimed three straight shutout victories to reach the finals of the USA Wrestling FILA Junior World Team Trials tournament, held over the weekend at Franklin High School.

Competing for the Minnesota Storm in the 120-kilogram (264.5-pound) weight class at the Junior event for wrestlers ages 17-20, Bogojevic opened with a 4-0, 5-0 win over Nathan Spieth (Oakland Regional Training Center), then scored a 7-0, 7-0 (TF) victory over Zac Wilcox (Maverick Wrestling) in the semifinals. In the challenge tournament finals, Bogojevic scored a 3-0, 2-0 win over Parker Betts (unattached/Minnesota Storm).

By virtue of winning the challenge tournament, Bogojevic faced Boise State wrestler Toby Erickson (Bronco Wrestling), last year's winner in both the freestyle and Greco-Roman titles at the FILA Pan-American Junior Championships, for the right to represent the U.S. in the FILA Junior World Championships. In the best-of-three final, Erickson claimed two victories, both by 1-0, 1-0 decisions.

Bogojevic has had an active spring in amateur wrestling. In April, he finished third in Greco-Roman competition at the USA Wrestling FILA Junior Nationals in Cleveland, Ohio. Earlier this month, he captured the 120-kilogram Senior Greco-Roman title at the USA Wrestling Northern Plains Regional in Waterloo, Iowa. His regional win qualified him to compete at the at the USA Wrestling Senior World Team Trials, which will be held June 9-11 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
