MIAC SOFTBALL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College softball player
Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
A shortstop, Ruedy hit .643 (9-of-14) during the past week in leading Augsburg to a 3-1 record, clinching a berth in the MIAC postseason playoffs for the first time since 2008. She scored three runs and had a double, 6 RBI, two walks, a .714 slugging percentage and a .688 on-base percentage. She also played an errorless week in the field, with no errors in 11 chances. In
a split with then-MIAC co-leader Gustavus on Wednesday, Ruedy went 5-for-7 at the plate with three RBI and a double. In
a sweep of St. Catherine on Saturday, she went 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI.
On the season, Ruedy is hitting .395 (49-of-124) with 26 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triple, six home runs, 30 RBI, a .637 slugging percentage and .440 on-base percentage, to go along with five stolen bases in five attempts.
Among MIAC players in overall statistics, Ruedy is tied for second in RBI (30), tied for fourth in home runs (six), fifth in total bases (79), sixth in slugging percentage (.637), tied for seventh in hits (49) and doubles (10), ninth in on-base percentage (.440) and 10th in batting average (.395).
In her three seasons (96 games, 89 starts), Ruedy is hitting .331 (83-of-251) with 42 runs, 15 doubles, a triple, 11 home runs, 49 RBI, a .530 slugging percentage and a .382 on-base percentage, with eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
Augsburg finished the 2012 regular season at 20-20 overall, 13-9 in MIAC play, securing a spot in the MIAC postseason playoffs for the first time since the 2008 season. Under sixth-year head coach
Tim Gormley, Augsburg has recorded 20-plus victories in four of the last five seasons, in addition to 10-plus conference victories in four of the last five seasons.
The MIAC playoffs will be held this Friday and Saturday (5/4-5) at the Rice Creek Fields in Shoreview, Minn. Augsburg will likely be the No. 3 seed in the four-team event, and will open on Friday at 3 p.m., facing either St. Thomas or Gustavus.
