MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College sprinter Ashley Carney (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the women's 100-meter dash, it was announced on Sunday.

Carney qualified for her second national championship event this season and third of her career. She earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in March, and also qualified as part of the women's 400-meter relay in the outdoor national championships in 2010.

The NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships will be held at Fritz B. Burns Stadium in Claremont, Calif. (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps host) this Thursday to Saturday (5/24-26). The women's 100-meter preliminaries will be held on Friday (5/25) at 6:30 p.m. Pacific time (8:30 p.m. Central time), with the finals set for Saturday (5/26) at 4 p.m. Pacific time (6 p.m. Central time). There are a total of 22 qualifiers in the women's 100-meter dash.

Carney will enter the national championships with the third-fastest time nationally in the women's 100-meter dash, a school-record 11.89 seconds at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on May 12 -- also a conference-meet record in the event. She also won the 200-meter dash at the MIAC Outdoor Championships and earned the Women's Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet award.

Carney has earned seven All-MIAC honors and two All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in her career. With her two outdoor titles and an indoor conference crown in the 60-meter dash this season, she now has been a part of six MIAC titles in her career. She was a part of two relay league titles last season and a relay title in 2010.

Carney's 24.93-second time in winning the 200-meter title at the MIAC Outdoor Championships fell short by six-hundredths of a second for making the 22-athlete field at the national meet in the event. The final qualifying time was 24.87 seconds. Her time ended up 27th-fastest nationally in the 200.
