MIAC FOOTBALL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second week in a row, Augsburg College quarterback
Ayrton Scott (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Making his third collegiate start,
Ayrton Scott threw for four touchdowns and rushed for three more, having a part in 338 yards of total offense in
Augsburg's 48-24 win at Hamline on Saturday. Scott rushed for 163 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns, while completing 14-of-20 passes for 175 yards and four scores.
Scott led the Augsburg offense to its third straight 400-yard game to start the season, as the Auggies gained 409 yards (234 rushing, 175 passing). After a fumble on the opening offensive play of the game, Augsburg scored touchdowns on seven consecutive drives, including a stretch of 34 unanswered points.
So far this season, Scott has gained 481 rushing yards on 61 carries -- averaging 7.9 yards per-carry and 160.3 yards per-game. His yards per-game total is tops among
MIAC players in overall statistics, while his yards per-carry total is tops among MIAC rushers with at least eight rushing attempts per-game. He has completed 42-of-74 passing for 597 yards and 10 touchdowns against just one interception. His 10 touchdowns are tops among MIAC quarterbacks, while his 199.0 passing yards per-game average is fourth best.
Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Scott currently ranks sixth in rushing yardage per-game. Scott also ranks sixth nationally in total offense, averaging 359.33 yards per-game, and also ranks sixth in "points responsible for," with his 10 passing touchdowns and three rushing scores. His totals are tops among first-year players in each of those categories.
Augsburg is now 3-0 on the season -- the third year in a row and fourth time in the last five years that Augsburg's football team has started a season with wins in its first three games. Augsburg hosts Bethel in the Auggies' Homecoming game this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
