Dan Kornbaum to play in D-III All-Star Game!

MINNEAPOLIS -- Thanks to an outpouring of fan support, Augsburg College center Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn.) will be heading to Salem, Va., on March 22 to play in the Reese's Division III College All-Star Game, after winning an online poll held on the D3hoops.com website this week.

Kornbaum received the most votes of any of the eight finalists for two spots in the All-Star Game, receiving 30 percent of 27,910 votes cast in a 48-hour D3hoops.com poll. Kornbaum will join Brandon Gries of St. Norbert (Wis.), who received 24 percent of the vote, at the All-Star Game.

The Reese's Division III College All-Star Game will be played on Saturday, March 22 at 3 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., prior to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Championship game. Reese's is the official candy partner of the NCAA. The game is sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College men's basketball fans can vote for center Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn.) to participate in the 2014 Reese's Division III College All-Star Game in Salem, Va., by taking part in an online poll from Monday to Wednesday (2/10-12).

The voting will be available at the D3hoops.com website starting at 11 a.m. Central time on Monday, running until 11 a.m. Central time on Wednesday. From the D3hoops.com news release: "Fans will be able to choose from a list with the top senior student-athlete in each of the eight Division III regions whose team is no longer participating in the NCAA Tournament. The two with the most votes will join 16 other seniors, two from each region, who were selected by a committee vote, for a total of nine student-athletes per side."

Kornbaum had the best year of his collegiate career this season, earning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors, in addition to being named to the All-MIAC team for the second straight year. Kornbaum was also named as one of 10 finalists nationwide for the Jostens Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding student-athlete in NCAA Division III basketball.

Kornbaum was one of the most dominant big men in small-college basketball this season, averaging 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per-game. He was the MIAC's scoring champion in both overall (19.3) and conference games-only (19.1). In MIAC overall statistics, Kornbaum led the league in points scored (502), field goals made (208) and blocked shots (43), while ranking second in field-goal percentage (.667), rebounds per-game (7.9), overall rebounds (205) and offensive rebounds (66), and ranking third in defensive rebounds (139).

Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Kornbaum ranks fourth in field-goal percentage (.667) and ninth in field goals made (208), while ranking 58th in points per-game (19.3). He recorded six point-rebound double-doubles this season, while recording 20-plus points 13 times.

In two seasons at Augsburg after transferring from Division II Minnesota-Duluth (54 games, 54 starts), Kornbaum recorded 1,015 points (18.8 ppg), along with 430 rebounds (8.0 rpg), 81 blocked shots, 31 steals and 84 assists. His 1,015 Augsburg points are 20th-most in school history, while his 18.8 points per-game are fifth-best and 8.0 rebounds per-game are tied for ninth-best. His 81 blocked shots are fifth-most in school history, and his .625 field-goal percentage is second-best.

Including his two seasons at Minnesota-Duluth (107 games, 57 starts), Kornbaum finished his college career with 1,296 points (12.1 ppg). 607 rebounds (5.7 rpg), 126 blocked shots, 88 assists, 40 steals and a .611 field-goal percentage.
