10091MINNEAPOLIS -- For the second straight year, Augsburg College women's soccer forward Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) was named to the Academic All-District 6 Division III Women's Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced on Thursday. Fitzgerald is a marketing major with a 3.82 grade-point average.

In 17 games this season, Fitzgerald leads the Auggies with 10 goals and 29 points, while standing second on the team with nine assists. Among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players in overall statistics, Fitzgerald leads the conference in total points, while standing second in both goals and assists. She has had a goal or assist in 10 of her 17 games, including two multiple-goal games and two multiple-assist games.

An All-MIAC selection in 2014 and All-MIAC honorable-mention selection in 2013, Fitzgerald now has 34 goals and 24 assists for 92 points in 76 career games, including 11 game-winning goals. She stands third in school history in career points and goals, while standing fourth in career assists.

Augsburg's women's soccer team, under 17th year head coach Mike Navarre, currently stands in a second-place tie in the MIAC standings with 21 points (12-5-0 overall, 7-3-0 MIAC), entering Saturday's (10/31) final game of the regular season, a 3:30 p.m. contest against MIAC regular-season champion St. Thomas at Edor Nelson Field. Last year's MIAC regular-season and playoff champion, Augsburg has clinched a berth in the six-team MIAC postseason playoffs for the second straight season and seventh time in program history.

The Academic All-District team is part of the Academic All-America program, as selected by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America program, as CoSIDA has moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I), doubling the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members. The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2015-16 Division III Academic All-America teams program.
