Angie Rieger (So., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm HS) scored all four goals for Augsburg College, as the Auggies claimed a 4-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College Saturday afternoon at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Augsburg remains unbeaten with the victory, improving to 9-0-1 overall and 7-0-0 in the MIAC. Gustavus falls to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the MIAC. In its four seasons of varsity play, Augsburg has yet to lose a game to an MIAC opponent, improving to 21-0 (10 wins over MIAC varsity teams, 11 over club teams). Augsburg has beaten Gustavus all eight times the teams have met (four varsity, four club).
Three of Rieger's goals were unassisted, including a shorthanded tally at the 16:56 mark of the second period. Rieger, who scored three of her four goals in the second stanza, now has a team-high seven goals this season.
Gustavus outshot the Auggies by a 42-24 margin, with Augsburg goalie
Meg Schmidt (Jr., West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) making 41 saves. She improves to 6-0-1 on the season with a goals-against-average of 1.06. As a team, Augsburg has a season GAA of 0.89.
Gustavus' lone goal came from Sarah Garrison (Fr., West Des Moines, Iowa) in the second period on the power play. Gustavus goalie Jen Zywotko (So., Wayzata, Minn.) made 20 saves in a losing effort.
Augsburg has a two-game series with Minnesota State-Mankato Friday and Saturday (Friday at Mankato at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at Augsburg at 7:05 p.m.), while Gustavus hosts Wisconsin-Superior in a two-game series (Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m.).
