MINNEAPOLIS (1/22/99) -- Kevin Adam (Jr., Caronport, Sask.) scored his second goal of the game at the 1:02 mark of the third period Friday night, sending his Bethel College Royals to a 4-3, come-from-behind victory over the host Augsburg College Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Bethel is now 5-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the MIAC, winners of their last three games in a row. Augsburg, which has dropped five of their last six games, drops to 7-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the MIAC.
Augsburg jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Steve LaMere (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Tony Putt (So., Burnsville, Minn. LaMere has a team-high nine goals on the season. Jonas Giving (Jr., Rasta, Norway/Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) added a power-play goal in the second period for the Auggies.
Bethel scored three times in the second period, on a power-play goal from Andy Manthei (So., Minnetonka, Minn.), an unassisted tally from Troy Giesegh (Sr., Muskego, Wis./Waukesha Cath. Mem. HS) and Adam.
The teams combined for 49 minutes of penalties, including 37 in the third period -- 31 coming on a multiple-roughing situation at the 8:10 mark.
Jeff Hall (Fr., Edina, Minn.) picked up his fourth win of the season in the nets, making 24 saves on 27 Augsburg shots. Ryan McIntosh (So., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 29 saves in a losing effort.
The two teams finish the weekend series Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. (1/23/99) at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. The game will be broadcast live on KKMS-AM 980.
