Women's Basketball 1/27/99 -- Gustavus 71, Augsburg 42

MINNEAPOLIS (1/27/99) -- Sheila Schonrock (Sr., Winnebago, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) had 14 points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists Wednesday night, leading Gustavus Adolphus College to a 71-42 victory over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Gustavus, rated No. 6 in the NCAA Division III West Region rankings, improves to 12-4 overall and 11-2 in the MIAC. Augsburg falls to 2-14 overall and 2-11 in the MIAC.

Leading 29-17 at halftime, Gustavus used a 13-4 scoring run to start the second half and pull away from the Auggies in the contest. A second scoring run of 12-0 followed shortly later, and Gustavus led 54-25 at the 11:40 mark of the second half.

Jessica Hogan (So., Fulda, Minn.), added 11 points and three steals for the Gusties, who had 18 steals and forced 25 Augsburg turnovers. Katie Hansen (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Carey Willis (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) had nine points each, and Nissa Stolp (Jr., Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) had 10 rebounds. In all, 10 of the 13 Gusties who saw action scored in the game.

Augsburg was paced by Leslie Lucas (Sr., Corcoran, Minn./Osseo HS), who had 10 points and three rebounds. Adrienne Tietz (Jr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Allison Illa (Fr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) and Toni Major (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) had five points each.

Augsburg travels to Bethel on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., while Gustavus hosts Hamline.
