MINNEAPOLIS (11/12/99) --
April Leger (So., Austin, Minn.) scored a natural hat trick Friday night, leading the Augsburg College women's hockey team to an 8-2 nonconference win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Leger scored three consecutive goals in a five-minute stretch in the second period, including a power-play and shorthanded tally, giving the Auggies a 7-1 lead at the second intermission. She also had an assist for a four-point night.
Emily Miller (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) scored two goals and had an assist for the Auggies, now 1-0 overall. Wisconsin-Superior drops to 0-3 overall.
The Auggies jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Superior scored. Augsburg also converted three power-play goals in six opportunities in the game.
Amber Nadreau (Jr., Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian HS) had a goal and three assists for the Auggies, while
Angie Rieger (Jr., Courtland, Minn./New Ulm Public HS) had a goal and two assists, as did
Annie Simons (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.).
Superior's goals came from Theresa Williams (Fr., Duluth, Minn.) and Mandy Brooks (So., Brighton, Mich.). Brooks added an assist on Williams' second-period goal.
Meg Schmidt (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) made 36 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Auggies. Kelly Timm (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) made 33 saves in a losing effort.
The two teams finish the series on Saturday (11/13) at 2:05 p.m. at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
