Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (11/13/99) -- Steve Aronson (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn.) scored two first-period goals and had a five-point for his University of St. Thomas men's hockey team, as the Tommies routed host Augsburg College 8-3 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Saturday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Aronson had two goals and two assists in the first period, as the Tommies scored three power-play goals and added a 4-on-4 tally to take a 5-1 lead into the first intemission. Ryan Francis (Sr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had wo second-period goals for the Tommies, while Brian Bolf (Sr., Hibbing, Minn.) had a four-point night -- scoring the last goal of the game on a power-play tally in the third period and adding three assists in the first frame.
In all, the teams combined for six power-play goals -- St. Thomas four and Augsburg two -- on 18 power-play opportunities in the game. Thanks to a late-game fight that produced eight player ejections (four for each team), the teams combined for 48 penalties for 192 minutes -- 23 for 98 minutes for Augsburg, 25 for 94 minutes for St. Thomas.
Augsburg finally got on the scoreboard in the last minute of the first period, when
Jaroslav Cesky (Fr., Praha, Czech Republic) scored his second goal of the season on an unassisted power-play blast.
Roland Blumer (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska/Robert Service HS) had a power-play goal in the second period, and
Nicholas Murray (So., Bloomington, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had the other Auggie goa.
Brad Moore (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.) picked up the win in his first collegiate game in the net for the Tommies, making 29 saves.
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 26 saves in a losing effort.
St. Thomas is now 1-0-1 overall and in the MIAC. Augsburg drops to 2-1-1 overall and in the MIAC.
