Cornell (Iowa) 80, Augsburg 75
Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (11/19/99) -- Lenora Sundstrom (Jr., Newcastle, Wyo.) scored all 15 of her points in the second half, leading a Cornell College charge to overcome a 10-point first-half advantage by host Augsburg College, en route to an 80-75 Cornell win in a nonconference women's basketball game Friday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
The game was the first contest for both teams.
The Auggies led by as many as 10 points, 38-28 at the 2:44 mark of the first half, and by nine points in the second half before Cornell rallied. The Rams used a 9-0 run over a two-minute span to tie the game at 50-50 on a Sundstrom three-pointer with 16:35 remaining in the second half. The Rams never trailed after that, extending the lead to as many as 12 points before the Auggies made a late charge.
In addition to Sundstrom's 15 points, she added six rebounds and connected on three 3-pointers in the contest. Lisa Fry (So., Warroad, Minn.) also had 15 points and seven rebounds for Cornell.
In all, five Rams scored in double figures. Emily Cline (Sr., Farmington, Iowa/Harmony HS) scored 14 points and had five rebounds, Lindsey Pfalmer (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer HS) had 11 points, and Marni Chandlee (So., Dubuque, Iowa) scored 10 points and had eight assists.
For Augsburg, Jaime Kingsley (Jr., Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) scored a career-high 16 points, adding eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Adrienne Tietz (Sr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) scored 12 points before fouling out, and Rachael Ekholm (So., Richfield, Minn.) hit two 3-pointers and scored 12 points, with four assists and three steals.
Augsburg was hampered by poor shooting, hitting just 28 of 74 field goals (37.8 percent). Cornell, however, hit 53.8 percent of its field goals (28 of 52), including seven 3-pointers.
Augsburg plays at Northwestern-Roseville on Tuesday night (11/23) at 7 p.m. Cornell plays at Macalester on Saturday (11/20) at 3 p.m.
