Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (12/17/99) --
Andy Ness (Jr., North St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) scored twice in the third period to tie the game, leading Augsburg College to a 3-3 draw with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at Augsburg Ice Arena.
Ness' first goal, at the 7:16 mark of the first period, broke a 1-1 tie game. River Falls responded with two goals in a 1:41 span late in the period, but Ness tied the game again on a shot from
Mike Jackson (Jr., Ramsey, Minn./Elk River HS) and
Andrew Shermoen (Jr., International Falls, Minn.) at the 18:12 mark. Jackson had a goal and two assists; Ness added an assist on Jackson's first goal of the game for a three-point night.
Augsburg is now 4-5-2 overall on the season, while River Falls moves to 7-2-3 overall.
Jeff Bernard had a goal and assist for the Falcons, scoring a power-play goal at the 14:09 mark of the third period to tie the game, then assisting Corey Martinson (Sr., New Prague, Minn./Culver Military Academy) on the Falcons' go-ahead goal at the 15:50 mark. Nick Hanrahan (Fr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) had River Falls' other goal in the game.
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) made 30 saves in goal for the Auggies, while Jacque Vezina (Fr., Hudson, Wis.) made 28 saves for River Falls.
River Falls returns to action at the Minutemen Tournament at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood, Minn., on Dec. 29-30, facing St. John's on Dec. 29 at 7:30 p.m. and St. Thomas on Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m. Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/18) with an exhibition match against Valerenga (Norway) at 7:05 p.m. at Augsburg Ice Arena.
