Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (12/18/99) -- Patric Englund scored a three-goal hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night on Saturday, leading the Valerenga IF men's hockey team of Oslo, Norway to a 6-1 victory over Augsburg College in an exhibition game at Augsburg Ice Arena.
The game was the last in Valerenga's three-game tour of the Midwest. On Tuesday, Valerenga topped Wisconsin-Madison 6-3 and on Wednesday, Valerenga beat the University of Minnesota 7-5. Valerenga is the two-time defending Norwegian League champions, with 20 titles in the last 30 years, including seven in the last 10 years. Players range from age 18 to 37.
Englund's hat trick was his second on the Midwest tour and gave him a team-high seven goals and three assists for the trip. Two of his goals were unassisted. Erik Tveten and Tom-Ivar Thompson had two assists apiece for Valerenga.
Augsburg's lone goal came midway through the third period, when
Joe Marston (Sr., Minnetonka, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored on assists from
Jake Wegscheider (So., Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Chad Moore (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.).
Ryan McIntosh (Jr., Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Grandin HS) had 43 saves for the Auggies, as Augsburg was outshot by a 49-16 margin in the contest. Ake Lillebjorn and Roger Bruvang combined to make 15 saves for Valerenga.
Augsburg returns to action with games against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponents Jan. 7-8. Augsburg plays at Lake Forest (Ill.) on Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m., and plays at St. Norbert (Wis.) on Jan. 8 at 7:05 p.m.
