Game Summary:
MINNEAPOLIS (12/4/99) -- Nikki Vetter (Sr., West Fargo, N.D.) scored 20 points and Brandi Myers (Jr., Glyndon, Minn./Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton HS) had 19 points, four blocks and seven steals Saturday, guiding Concordia-Moorhead to a dominating 88-55 win over Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Concordia improves to 3-1 with the victory, while Augsburg remains winless at 0-4. The game was the MIAC opener for both teams.
Concordia built a 28-9 lead in the first 14 minutes of play, taking advantage of a poor shooting performance by the Auggies. The Cobbers led 41-27 at halftime.
Augsburg hit only 17 of 74 field goal attempts (23.0 percent), while the Cobbers stroked the nets for a 53.4-percent clip (31 of 58).
In all, five Concordia players scored in double figures. Sara Spears (Jr., Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Mandy Berggren (So., Cokato, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) had 11 points and nine rebounds. Kasey Bostow (Fr., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) had 10 points.
For Augsburg,
Rachael Ekholm (So., Richfield, Minn.) led the way with 15 points.
Erin Brockberg (Jr., Pipestone, Minn./Pipestone-Jasper HS) scored 10 points and had seven rebounds and three assists, while
Adrienne Tietz (Sr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had sevne points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Augsburg hosts Gustavus on Wednesday night (12/8) at 7:30 p.m., while Concordia hosts Carleton Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
