MINNEAPOLIS (2/10/99) -- Macalester College outscored Augsburg College 21-0 over a nearly 10-minute period in the second half Wednesday night, rallying the Scots to a 58-47 victory over Augsburg in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Macalester, which won for the second time in its past 12 games, is now 6-14 overall and 5-12 in the MIAC. Augsburg, which dropped its 10th game in a row, falls to 2-18 overall and 2-15 in the MIAC.
Trailing 45-33 at the 11:16 mark of the second half, Macalester rallied for 21 straight points to take a lead and pull away from the Auggies, who finally scored with 25 seconds left to play in the game. Augsburg led 26-21 at halftime.
Kate Stebbins (Jr., North Bend, Ore.) had seven of her game-high 17 points in the end-of-game run. She added eight rebounds, two steals and seven blocked shots in the game. Karen Martin (Jr., Westford, Mass.) had 11 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. Nora Anderson (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Blake HS) had 14 points and four assists.
Augsburg was paced by Rachael Ekholm (Fr., Richfield, Minn.), who had 12 points, two assists and two steals. Adrienne Tietz (Jr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had eight points and seven rebounds. Jill Ruprecht (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) had nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
Augsburg travels to St. Benedict on Saturday, while Macalester plays at Gustavus. Both games are at 3 p.m.
