Women's Basketball -- Augsburg breaks 12-game losing streak with 70-59 win over Hamline!
MINNEAPOLIS - Led by
Rachael Ekholm's (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) 20 points and four starters in double figures, the Augsburg College women's basketball team broke a 12-game losing streak with a 70-59 win over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game Monday night at Si Melby Hall.
Ekholm hit three 3-pointers and went 5-6 from the free-throw line to account for the top scoring performance of her career, which included three steals and two assists.
Augsburg is now 3-20 overall and 3-17 in the MIAC, while Hamline falls to 5-17 overall and 5-15 in the MIAC.
Liz Meskan (So., New Prague, Minn.) had 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Auggies, while
Jill Ruprecht (Sr., Glendale, Wis./Nicolet HS) had 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Adrienne Tietz (Jr., Shakopee, Minn./Monticello HS) had the second double-double of her Augsburg career, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Augsburg pulled away in the second half, after leading 28-25 at halftime. Leading 41-38 at the 14:40 mark of the second half, Augsburg went on a 14-2 run to lead by the widest margin of the game, 55-40, at the 8:44 mark.
Chanteil Walter (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) led the Pipers with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Carrie Forsland Sund (Jr., Shakopee, Minn.) had 14 points and Stacey Thill (Fr., Parkville, Mo.) had 10 points. Katie Jensen (Fr., Hutchinson, Minn.) had nine points, 14 rebounds and 11 steals in the contest.
Augsburg hosts St. Mary's on Wednesday night, while Hamline plays at Concordia-Moorhead. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
